Karen Harmer a mother of four had a dream of one day owning her own pub and so at the end of 2008 she bought the Globe at Newtown in Exeter. Karen is originally from Newton although she has spent the last 25 years living in the Alphington area of Exeter. She said “the Globe has always had a good reputation for live music and I will certainly be keeping that going. I also intend to have disco’s and kareoke nights and after Christmas I plan to introduce bingo and quiz nights. The Globe has a very large function room which can cater for 120 people and I am hoping to promote this facility”.

Well supported by the local community, Karen has been warmly welcomed as the new landlady. She is carrying on with the pub’s pool team but presently looking for new players to start up darts and football teams.

Karen is looking to increase the food sales and in the New Year she will be employing a chef and creating a new lunchtime and evening menu, consisting of traditional “pub grub” style food.

Since taking over the pub Karen has started refurbishing some of the trade areas with plans to completely refurbish the private living accommodation as soon as she can.
